Mashable Asks: Can Robots Run the News? BuzzVoice Video Response

Can Robots Run the NewsTonight, while checking flights on my computer, I had my iPhone on my desk, streaming my favorite blogs on the new BuzzVoice 3.0 app. After listening to a story from The iPhone Blog, I was about to close BuzzVoice and head up to bed.

However, before I could hit the home button on my iPhone, a story by Mashable, titled “Can Robots Run the News?,” started playing. Given the way I was consuming this news – by sitting back and letting BuzzVoice do all the work – the title struck me as ironic.

I listened to the story twice, then picked up my other iPhone to film my response to Mashable writer Sarah Kessler’s question. Given that I co-created BuzzVoice, my answer might surprise you. Check out the short video. What do you think? Can Robots Run the News? [Good Night - John]

Pre-launch Preview: The All New BuzzVoice 3.0 for iPhone

BuzzVoice 3.0's Streaming PlayerThe number of Americans accessing news and blogs on mobile devices has exploded recently, thanks in part to “the smartphone revolution”. A recent report by Pew Internet estimates a full 26% of us now get news on-the-go.

Unfortunately, many sites aren’t optimized for the on-the-go news experience, requiring users to search, sift and read on tiny mobile screens. Couple that with the fact that roaming users often need their hands or eyes for other things, like driving, working out, or watching for that UPS truck while crossing the street, and the task can be downright dangerous.

If you’re a BuzzVoice user, you know that our magical service lets you listen to your favorite news & blogs everywhere. And, after months’ of feedback from users and publishers, we’re excited to say…

The All New BuzzVoice 3.0 Is Coming Soon

BuzzVoice 3.0 sports 6 revolutionary new features for on-the-go news consumers and will run on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G & 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch, and iPad. It’s never been easier to keep up with your favorite topics, while increasing productivity. And, if you know how to use Pandora, or an iPod, you already know how to use it.

Look for a chance to win a free copy of BuzzVoice 3.0 on some of the web’s top blogs soon. Once Apple has approved the new app, we’ll post more details, and a download link here. In the meantime, we would love to hear your thoughts at feedback@BuzzVoice.com.

BuzzVoice Announces Real-Time Audio Platform For Publishers [Private Beta Launch]

Email Publishers@BuzzVoice.comNew Service Lets Bloggers and News Sites Offer Streaming Audio of Their Text Content To Engage Multitaskers On Their Sites & On The Social Web

Austin, TX,  March 15, 2010 – BuzzVoice today announced that it has entered private beta with bloggers and news sites for its new “Real-time Radio” service. By installing a simple widget on their sites, publishers can leverage the BuzzVoice platform to instantly offer a streaming audio channel of breaking text stories to their audiences.

[Mashable - Spoken by BuzzVoice]

Through the voice-powered widget, visitors can listen to continuous stories while multitasking on the publisher’s site, post the widget to Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social sites, or listen on the go on iPhones, iPods, iPads, MP3 players and other mobile devices.

A team of social media and news industry advisors including Chris Brogan, Jason Falls, James Jackson of Enquirer Media/Gannett and others helped shape the new service, which helps publishers increase engagement while promoting their content on the social web.

According to Falls, the new service “allows your blog or news site to become a streaming radio station, of sorts. My community can now stream my content live, subscribe to it in iTunes, access it via the BuzzVoice iPhone app and even grab my widget to share on other sites.”

BuzzVoice CEO John Atkinson states, “We’re excited to give bloggers and publishers a new way to distribute their content and expand their presence on the social web. In addition to reaching busy consumers, our Real-time Radio service also allows publishers to make their content accessible to the visually impaired and people with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.”

*To request a private beta invitation and enter to win a free iPad, email your site’s URL to: Publishers@BuzzVoice.com

*See It Live: BuzzVoice will be demonstrating the new service at the South by Southwest Conference in Austin this week. To schedule a demo, email Press@BuzzVoice.com

BuzzVoice Will Run On Apple’s New iPad Tablet

The iPad featuring BuzzVoiceListen with BuzzVoiceAt the Apple Event in San Francisco, Steve Jobs unveiled the company’s long-awaited tablet named “The iPad.”

The 9.7 inch multi-touch device offers Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, weighs in at just 1.5 pounds, and sports a full 10 hour battery life.

And since the iPad runs the iPhone operating system, it will offer functionality similar to the iPhone and iPod touch, including the ability to run “most” apps from Apple’s App Store.

When the iPad goes on sale in March- at a surprisingly low price of $499 - BuzzVoice will run on the revolutionary new device, allowing you to stream audio versions of breaking stories from the web’s top 1,400+ blogs and news sites.

Lastly, for development on The iPad, Apple announced the availability of a new software development kit that will allow us to optimize BuzzVoice for The iPad. Stay tuned for more exciting features!
